BRITTA was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine BRITTA is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 24 December 2018 and at the time of rescue in February 2020 weighed around 52pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
BRITTA arrived at the rescue on Tuesday, 25th February and has been living up in the house with my dogs and other rescue dogs. There are also small breed puppies and small dogs. Britta settled in well, she is a confident girl and does at times want to be in charge, which my dogs just really ignore. She plays well with other dogs and is loving the snow and being outside in the fresh cool are.
She is a young, high energy girl whose family must be able to provide a lifestyle that satisfies her high energy, playing in the back yard is not enough. She also needs a family that understands how intelligent GSDs are and be committed to train her and to give her mental stimulation throughout her life to keep her happy and not get bored. She is very responsive and so training should be fun, it needs to be consistent so she knows her place in the family. She eats with the other dogs and at times does growl, which when told "no" stops instantly. She is a happy girl, but is that age where she most definitely needs a lot of interaction and training.
All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.
